We finally did a themed dinner and a movie night again! Yay! We did Tomorrowland, which was a really good movie, by the way. The dinner menu consisted of :Invent your own Sandwich, Curiosity Chips (bbq chips) , Fruit of the Future (fruit salad) and a chocolate cherry-chip cake featuring marshmallow sculptures of portals, characters, etc. Activities included printable mazes found on Pinterest and drawing on a light up menu board. I had thought they’d draw inventions and such on the chalk tablecloth, but I underestimated the draw of the light up board – which is still a big hit, btw. Littlest sweetness enjoyed turning the light up tree on and off. I’m pretty pleased with how this turned out considering we just made it up with what was in the house when the movie showed up in the mailbox.😉
On a deeper level, this represents a return to life for our family. I’m so thankful for that, and for the sweet family that shares this beautiful life with me. ❤️❤️

Family movie night is a favorite in our house. Usually on Fridays, we’ll make a pizza or go out to eat and pick a movie that we all can enjoy. Popcorn and a movie related activity are bonuses. Sometimes I go all out, and sometimes I need it to be low-key. I know the kids enjoy it and look forward to it. Plus, a routine is good for everyone. I’ve been slacking off on the routine lately. So when Captain D’s offered me the chance to check out their new look, while enjoying dinner and a movie, I jumped at it.
Captain D’s has completely remodeled their stores to have a more comfortable, beachy feel. I think they accomplish this quite well. In fact, it’s probably a little nicer than one of the places we ate at the beach this year. The kids and I were totally comfortable hanging out here and the booth was big enough for all of us and all our stuff- you’d be surprised how often this is an issue.
Also, they’ve “remodeled” the menu, focusing on healthier options. What other fast foodish place offers corn on the cob? Put it on a stick and it’s even better. My children of course chose chicken fingers, which I’m so glad they have! Kids meals are really reasonably priced, too. $4.99 includes protein, 2 sides and a drink. That’s a lot of food! I got so much food, I had leftovers to take home to my husband! I did of course have to try two new desserts as well; the apple pie bites and fried banana cheesecake bites. The kids loved the apple pie bites! I thought the cheesecake bites were super delicious.
So how does this tie into a movie night? Right now Captain D’s is partnered with Spiderman 2: 3D. There was a Spiderman theme to the event, and the kids meals feature 3D glasses and activities. Get it, 3D/ Captain D’s? Yeah, I didn’t the first time either. It’s amazing the things that go right over my head. They’re also offering two lucky readers the chance to win a copy of Spiderman 2:3D. Comment below with a favorite family ritual and I’ll put the comments in a bowl and have kids pick two winners on October 31,2014. One entry per household.
